THEATRE

BARE

WITNESS

Here let us stand, close by the cathedral. Here let us wait.
Are we drawn by danger?

Is it the knowledge of safety, that
    draws our feet
Towards the cathedral? What danger can be
For us, the poor, the poor women of Canterbury? what
    tribulation
With which we are not already familiar? There is no danger
For us, and there is no safety in the cathedral. Some presage
    of an act
Which our eyes are compelled to witness, has forced our feet
Towards the cathedral. We are forced to bear witness.

(from ‘Murder in the Cathedral’, T.S. Eliot)

We make theatre that moves, thrills, and surprises:  Theatre that is physically rigorous and bristling with life. We have hopped from lunchtime comedy to urban drama to a Butoh-inspired adaptation of one of the great texts in the English language - and we’re only just getting started.

We place emphasis on theatre as a participatory experience: a social event that exists then and there, and then is seen no more. It is intimate and epic. It is a conversation about who we are. We endeavour to make every second under that spotlight worth your time and attention, and weave worlds that leave traces in your dreams.

Bare Witness is an artistic vehicle led by Christopher Samuel Carroll, producing work in Dublin and Paris that tours internationally. Curious? So are we. Get in touch at: info@barewitnesstheatre.com.
